Getting started

Go to canva.com and create a free account. All the AI features are grouped under "Magic Studio": Magic Design (generates complete designs from a description), Magic Write (writes text inside the design itself), Dream Lab (generates images) and Magic Charts (turns data into charts). For your first design, click the "Design" tab on the left side of the editor and type a description of what you need (for example, "product launch presentation"); Canva will generate several complete proposals to choose from.

Advanced setup

  1. Using Magic Design
    Click the "Design" tab on the left side of the editor and type your prompt in the search bar: the more specific you are (design type, style, colors), the better the proposals.
  2. Setting up your brand voice in Magic Write
    Upload samples of your own writing so Magic Write learns to mimic your tone and style in the text it generates from then on.
  3. Generating images with Dream Lab
    Describe the image you need and choose a visual style. You'll get several photorealistic variations to pick from and edit directly in your design.
  4. Plan and limits
    Magic Studio groups the five AI tools into a single paid plan, from about $15/month; Canva's free plan lets you try the features with usage limits.

Tips

  • In Magic Design, be as specific as possible in your prompt (design type, target audience, brand colors): proposals improve a lot with more context.
  • Set up your brand voice in Magic Write once and you won't have to fix the tone in every new text you generate.
  • Combine Dream Lab with your brand kit (saved colors and fonts) so generated images visually match the rest of your designs.
  • Use Magic Charts when you need to present data: it's faster than building a chart manually and keeps the style consistent with the rest of the presentation.
  • Save your favorite designs as templates if you'll be reusing the same format (social media, reports) often.

Can I use my own brand (colors, fonts) with the AI?
Yes. If you have a Brand Kit set up, Magic Design and Magic Write can use it automatically when generating new content.
Are images generated by Dream Lab copyrighted?
